Lord Nelson Says

I would like to thank our club members Dan, Lou, Deepa, and Rick for representing our club at the Rotary International District 5240 2004 District Conference. I could tell from listening to Lou that it was very inspiring.

The Nominating Committee, which is made up of Don Oaks, Deepa Willingham, Butch Phillips, and Patty Murphy, is now making up a sheet for the 2005/2006 President and next year's officers and directors. We will also be accepting nominations from the floor next week and the election will be held on December 1.

We have also formed a Membership Committee, made up of Sharon Pike, Michele Fairbank, and Ed Andrisek. They will be looking for ways to increase our number of guests and new members.

I would also like to remind everybody again about the Rotary International Convention in June of 2005. It may seem like a long time away, but since this is the hundred year anniversary of Rotary, it is going to be very well attended. One of the main things you need to do as soon as possible is to book your hotel. Also, our District Governor, Jan Lindsay, has arranged for a dinner cruise on Lake Michigan

Rotary Int'l Update - Fighting Polio in Africa

Close to 4,000 Rotarians joined a million-strong army of volunteers to immunize more than 80 million children in 23 West and Central African countries between October 8-12. Aimed at halting a polio outbreak that originated in Kano, Nigeria, and quickly spread to a dozen formerly polio-free countries in the region, the synchronized National Immunization Days, have been billed as the single largest health event on the continent. Ethiopia, Sudan's neighbor to the east, has also organized a separate immunization campaign for October 22 . More than 50 Rotarians from the United States will join their Ethiopian counterparts to deliver polio vaccine to different parts of the country. So far, the Rotary Foundation has contributed more than $205.8 million to eradicate polio throughout Africa.
