You could say that we started our new Rotary year with a BIG BANG. The 4th of July fireworks was a real big success. We would like to thank Bob Moir and his total staff for all their efforts it appeared that most of our healthy members were there helping. The committee should be very happy, this was our largest fund raiser ever! We would like to thank KING RICHARD for his very interesting Rotary year, and to let him know that he did a GREAT JOB!! It was a great reign because of all your efforts. Thanks for all your help and support and a wonderful demotion party. I will be sitting at the back table if you would like to talk about the good old days. This year Rotary's highest humanitarian Award was presented to the Tim Parry Johnaton Ball Young People's Peace Center in Warrington, U.K. The Peace Center is named after two 12 year old boys killed in Northern Ireland by a bomb in March of 1993. Parents of the boys launched the program to teach young people, ages 11 to 18, to become Ambassadors for Peace. The Peace Center will receive $100,000 to fund a peace-focused project of it's choice. Nelson and Sandi Owens had plenty of Rotarians to meet at the 2004 Rotary International Convention in Osaka, Japan. A new record of 45,000 Rotarians were in attendance. Nelson will share his observations soon. The theme for Rotary's Centennial Year (as you can tell from the new logo on the back page) is "Celebrate Rotary". It was chosen by Glenn Estess Sr.; President Elect of Rotary International. Your should be making your plans now for the Centennial Convention in Chicago from 18-22 June 2005. If you miss this one you will have to wait another 100 years for the next one, and you know room rates will be enormous in 2105. To provide better customer service and to handle the projected demand for accommodations, the Hotel Reservation Form is now available to download at http://www.rotary.org/centennial/convention. Rooms can also be booked through Rotary Housing via telephone. Call 1-800-974-9833. RI has blocked rooms at 60 hotels. Prices range from $129/night to $350/night. We are always looking for articles about our members and all the Rotary activity that occurs in the Valley. Please contact Len Dalberg or myself.
