King Richard Says

KING RICHARD SAYS Patty Murphy and crew are busy getting ready for the Santa Ynez Day on Saturday. the 12th. Come on over and see our new Canopy which John Rasmussen will install.

We should give a big THANK YOU to Richard Smullen for the donation of his hand made bird house. I understand we took in $400.00 from the raffle. His generosity and craftsmanship has helped our Centennial project substantially.

The 4th of July Fireworks is right around the corner, be sure you get signed up for the job you would like to do. We'll need everyone to participate according to the Director, Bob Moir.

One more Cogwheel and my year is done! Doesn't seem like a year since I started but here it is and I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have.

DEMOTION PARTY

Let's give King Richard one exciting, yes even excruciating send-off! The past presidents under the leadership of Butch Phillips have planned a ritual right out of Merlin's bubbling caldron! Merlin's hirelings would be proud of our past presidents' knowledge of demonic practices. Don't miss it!!!

Date: June 30, 6 p.m. No-host cocktails 7 p.m. Dinner - Steak and Salmon Price: $35.00 per person Place: Meadows Restaurant, Solvang

Sign up at Rotary this Wed., June 16, or on June 23. You may also call Butch Phillips at Los Padres Bank - 688-6644.

Centennial Project

The Centennial Committee, with representatives from our 3 local Rotary Clubs, met Thursday, June 10. They heard some good news.

1. Sunny Fields Park's annexation to the city of Solvang is on schedule.

2. $120,000.00 has been pledged by the three Rotary Clubs and the city of Solvang.

3. A time-line has been established, bringing our project to the "buildout" dates of April 26 - May 1, 2005. Dave Iannello of Leathers Associates will direct us through the construction phase.

4. On Wed. Feb. 23, 2005, Rotary celebrates 100 years. A joint festive gathering will be planned.

President Ronald W. Reagan

I just thought that since Ronald W. Reagan passed away this week, I would include a few of "Reagan's Wisdom to Live By". This was written up in the Investors Business Daily newspaper this past week:

On Destiny - "You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We can preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we can sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. If we fail, at least let our children and our children's children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done." From "A Time of Choosing" address on behalf of Barry Goldwater's presidential candidacy, delivered on national television, Oct. 27, 1964

On Risk-Taking - "This country was founded and built by people with great dreams and the courage to take great risks." Remarks at a question-and-answer session with members of the Massachusetts High Technology Council in Bedford, Jan. 26, 1983.

On Entrepreneurs - "We in government should learn to look at our country through the eyes of the entrepreneur, seeing possibilities where others see only problems." Radio address to the nation, Jan. 26, 1985
