Five from our club attended the District Conference in San Luis Obispo last week. Among us was Rick Zander and his wife, Ester. District Governor Arnie Dowdy gave the profits from the Basket Raffle as well as the money left over from shirt sales to Rick to use in his work. He also won our raffle of $1500.00 the Wednesday before the event. There is no one who could use that money more effectively than Rick. He remarked about how far a dollar goes in the Philippines. The conference was exceptionally well organized and run! Outstanding speakers and entertainment. It is just a shame that more of you did not or could not attend. Next year the event will be held on a cruise ship and space is going fast. If you want to attend we can get you an application. November is the month in which our nominating committee will be selecting a President Elect Nominee (President for 2005-2006). If any of you have recommendations please let me know this week. We have asked the two other clubs in the valley to join us for a Christmas party at the Alisal this year. I haven't heard back from them but expect affirmative replies soon. Andy West grew up in our valley and graduated from Santa Ynez Valley High School in 1994. He attended Allan Hancock College and Palmer West School of Chiropractic in San Jose, graduating in 2002. Dr. West recently opened a new chiropractic practice in Solvang working out of the office of Dr. Michael Krause. Together with Dr. Krause, Andy is involved with Pro Sports Chiropractic. Currently Dr. West is stepping in for Shep Brogles as trainer for the Pirates football program. Andy is married to Heather Keaffe and has twin daughters, Kiely and Samantha. Andy was sponsored by Butch Phillips and carries the classification of chiropractor. Randy Jones sold six pigs this month. King Richard is reportedly making wild bets on USC, so if you are a little short this is a great opportunity. Perhaps some of you would be interested in a few statistics concerning the contributions you have made to the community in the last few years. The real story is, of course, not in the numbers but in your commitment. The editor is asking for your help in making the Cogwheel more relevant. We could use articles for the “About Our Members” column;, trips, kids, grandkids excelling, anything that you would like to share with other members. Other more general articles would also be good, things you know about in the community, examples of how something the Club has done in the community have had an impact. Doing it this way you avoid a fine at the noon meeting! Either Email me at antiqueL1@earthlink.net , bring to the Wednesday meeting or phone 688-0621.
